Switch off the noise, tune into your inner truth

The secret to dying

Hides in a life well-lived

Redefine your purpose

Explore the core themes of dying, living, and being from Martin O'Toole's acclaimed book, How To Die Happy. Immerse yourself in mindfulness, philosophical discussions, and practical spiritual teachings. Over seven days, you'll cultivate self-awareness, self-expansion, authenticity, and a profound sense of purpose.

Cultivate connection

Our daily practice of invigorating Kundalini yoga, including movement, meditation, and breathwork, provides nurturing tools for developing and maintaining presence and awareness. Whether you're new to yogic practices or an experienced yogi, these sessions will enrich your ability to be present, fostering a deeper connection with yourself and the world.

Surrender to Nature

Nature offers a sanctuary for introspection. Our Quinta Marugo site provides plenty of opportunities to explore breathtaking landscapes for just that. Swim in the natural pond and lake, hike the land, and stargaze under unpolluted skies. Surrender to nature and gain insights, clarity, and renewed energy in time for group fireside sessions.

Let's make one thing clear

This isn't a sombre, death-centric retreat. It's a chance to reflect on how embracing life's natural cycles, much like Spring’s renewal, can profoundly reshape our outlook on the life we have yet to live.

This retreat celebrates awareness, acceptance, gratitude, and presence, helping you connect with yourself and others on a deeper level to enjoy a better life.

Join Julia and Martin in celebrating this season of awakening, growth, and renewal.

  • "I can't praise Julia and Martin's retreat enough. Attending one is a precious gift that keeps on giving. I would definitely recommend their retreats to anyone seeking a reset or to delve deeper into their consciousness”.

Retreat yourself

The first How To Die Happy Retreat of 2024 will be in an expansive self-contained permaculture farm and purpose-built retreat space situated in an untouched region of southern Portugal. With zero noise or light pollution, this incredible 30-hectare oasis of peace offers the perfect opportunity to revitalise, reset, and reinvent.

Into cold plunge therapy? Enjoy wild swimming on the land! Hike to your heart's content, stargaze, philosophise, and engage in yoga and other mindfulness practices to help you journey inward. Find yourself at the How To Die Happy Portugal 2024 retreat.
